How to disable or enable sending diagnostics to Microsoft in Windows 11
As mentioned above, Microsoft uses diagnostics and feedback to collect information about your Windows devices. When you enable sending diagnostic data, Microsoft uses that diagnostic information to keep Windows secure and up to date, troubleshoot problems, and make product improvements. Below is how to change this setting in Windows 11. Windows 11 has a centralized location for the majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from its System Settings pane. To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + I shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below: Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it. Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Privacy & Security, then select the Diagnostics & feedback tile on the right pane as highlighted in the image below. On the Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback settings pane, below Diagnostic data, toggle the On and Off switch to enable or disable Sending optional diagnostic data to Microsoft. Alternatively, open Local Group Policy Editor by clicking on the Start Menu and searching for Edit group policy as highlighted below. Under Best match, select Edit group policy to launch Local Group Policy Editor.
In the left pane of Local Group Policy Editor, expand the tree: In the Data collection and Preview Builds details pane on the right, locate and double-click the setting Allow Diagnostic Data. In the Allow Diagnostic Data setting window, set the option to Enabled or Disabled. Select OK. Close Local Group Policy Editor. Another way to disable sending diagnostic data to Microsoft is via Windows Registry. To do that, open Windows Registry then browses to the path below: There, create a new REG_DWORD data and call it AllowTelemetry if one isn’t already there. Then change the data value as needed:
0 = disable 1 = send required diagnostic data 3 = send optional diagnostic data
